A few days ago the Brightside group attended their yearly expo and there was a measurable increase in activity from the previous year at the Central London show. This coming from one who doesn’t study Economics! There was noticeably improved excitement in the showcase area. Our aim is to become the best London printers.

Are marketing budgets improving? I know not the definitive answer but it was certainly a good litmus test!

It was quite an exhausting week but it marked the start of positive things for Brightside. Our sales team learnt a great deal.

The preceding year was Brightside’s first show and attendance was beneficial in its own way for us. We were definitely going to make positive improvements.

At this point, the real work truly commences. (Even if during the tradeshow nothing was more difficult than standing on your feet for hours on end!) Our leads are being contacted. The man that is looking for new branding; the lady whose meeting needs an executive delegates packet will be spoken to; the promotions director that wants a print company to work with their own graphic design studio that can create their annual report will be met with, and more.

If you don’t follow up with your leads after spending a great deal of money and energy to generate them you are showing yourself to be a company that is not serious about their craft, and that speaks volumes to your potential clients.

Even though referenced as our “yearly” expo, it has only become so recently. The chance to participate come out of the blue suddenly and left us scrambling to set up. Our designers worked around the clock.

The romantic wedding dress designs that are gracing the altars this year are awe-inspiring compared to the choices I was given as a bride five years ago. The endless array of new options makes me want to get married all over, just to walk down the aisle again in a fantastic dress!

Gone with the white and in with the bright! Well, sort of. You can now opt for muted shades of lavender, blush, coral, and many more. I’ve really taken a liking to the traditional white or ivory wedding dress with hand detailing in colors like red, black, sage green, pink, blue or really any other color that you can imagine; and choosing the accessories to match is a lot of fun. Disadvantages: The modeling tools in sketchup are very much geared towards architectural style geometry, Sketchup’s tool advantages soon show their limitations when the geometry is not positioned at exactly zero degrees rotation, The intuitive cutting tools don’t snap correctly and it can become a pain editing an already positioned model in a scene.

Geometric models with hard surfaces work well with Sketch-up, but keep in mind the tools are more for natural 3D modeling.

The rendering choices are limited and the options for animation are also limited. You can only use camera animation with this which is quite poor. The technique it takes it scene to scene which leaves basically no control over the camera and can create unusual camera motions.

Pros: This software comes with a wide range of tools and choices letting the designer create basically any type of 3D Visualisation project thinkable.

Mograph is surprisingly fast to pick up and delivers excellent results.The inbuilt rendering engine allows the user to produce true photo-realistic results.

On the bad side:

Apart from the expensive price tag that comes with this software, Cinema 4D’s modeling tools can be quite complicated and takes a bit of time to understand. The tools are not as inbuilt as Sketch-up’s and good knowledge on the subject is required.

To finish up:

Sketchup is ideal for quickly producing low end architectural 3D visualisation. A high end program like Cinema4D is a must for producing ‘high-end’ 3D work.

But this doesn’t mean that Sketch-up is only for producing low-end projects, with it’s speedy modeling tools a high end project can be produced.

The geometry in Sketch-up can be taken and imported into Cinema 4D for the purposes of rendering and texturing, It saves time but is limited to architecture because of the qualities of the modeling tools.
